We had an incredible time at our recent Media Production Breakfast, featuring special guest Laurika Jude, Director of the Paradise 48 Film Festival in St. Thomas, USVI. It was an honour to welcome so many industry professionals, aspiring photographers, and videographers—including PS Smith-Abbott—for meaningful discussions on the future of film in our territory.

We were thrilled to share insights on our role as the Film Commission, highlight our 2024 accomplishments, and outline our 2025 goals. Most importantly, we valued your feedback on how we can better provide opportunities for individual growth and industry expansion.

Before we close out 2024, we want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Keano Brin for tying for Best Cinematography in the 284 Excellence Film Competition, which took place on November 2, 2024.

The 284 Excellence Film Competition aims to showcase and celebrate the creativity, talent, and innovation of emerging filmmakers in the British Virgin Islands. It serves as a platform to nurture and spotlight local storytellers, as well as to encourage the growth of our film industry while inspiring ‘excellence’ in all aspects of filmmaking.
We had to order an additional trophy, which has now been received, and Keano was presented with his personal Neil Blyden Memorial Award for Best Cinematography.

Keano has been incredibly humble and patient throughout the process, and we sincerely thank him for his understanding and graciousness as we finalised his award. Congratulations once again, Keano, on this well-deserved recognition!

]]> 158 BVI Film Commission Hosts Film Competition https://bvifilm.com/2024/09/21/bvi-film-commission-hosts-film-competition/ Sat, 21 Sep 2024 13:30:23 +0000 https://bvifilm.com/?p=296 The British Virgin Islands Film Commission is calling all interested film professionals to enter this year’s film competition titled the 284 Excellence Film Competition. Interested film enthusiasts are encouraged to complete registration via [email protected] by 9th October. The deadline for video submissions is 20th October.

Video submissions that advance beyond the preliminary round will premiere at the screening event; 284 Excellence Film Screening and Awards Ceremony on Sunday 19th November at U.P.’s Cineplex.

Finalists will compete for a plethora of award titles including: Best Cinematography, Best Actor/Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Editing, Best Soundtrack, Fan Favourite Award, Best Overall Picture and others, along with a grand prize of $5,000.
